Content Producer

Flatbush Cats is on a mission to solve the outdoor cat crisis in Brooklyn, NY. We’re seeking a detail-oriented, resourceful and strategic individual to manage most of the organization’s storytelling and communications during a time of significant growth and excitement. This is a full-time role based onsite in Flatbush, Brooklyn. 

Previous nonprofit or animal welfare experience is not required - however, we are looking for folks who are passionate about our mission and bring at least two years of professional experience with high-volume digital and social media management. Experience managing video production and distribution (short form / social and longer for YouTube) is required.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Management

  • Build and run a process to deliver a high volume of video content - including translating pre-existing visuals and editorial copy into on-brand, creative content for web and social platforms  

  • Manage our editorial + social content calendar to collectively reach several million animal lovers every month - delivering highly engaging educational, storytelling + advocacy video content across YouTube, TikTok and other social media, email, and web (900,000+ followers and subscribers)

  • Identify opportunistic / real-time content capture opportunities across all of our programs (Veterinary Care, TNR and Rescue) to highlight and share our lifesaving work with supporters

  • Develop innovative approaches to channel management and content strategy in line with platform best practices (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, email)

  • Ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet our editorial standards

  • Produce organizational guidelines, processes and training materials as needed

  • Test new video concepts, ideas and formats and share learnings

Content Production and Distribution

  • Manage the full production cycle of video creation, from early ideation through delivery (including documentary-style field capture and onsite shoots at clinic)

  • Directly manage all video projects, with a primary focus on YouTube features (5-10 minutes) and short form for social (:90). For reference, we will produce 2-4 YouTube features and 30-40 short form videos each month 

  • Exercise editorial judgment in content selection and approval, setting and maintaining standards for the team to follow

  • Concept, draft and polish copy for feature video scripts, social video / captions and newsletters

  • Plan and manage content production for training videos/modules as needed

  • Oversee and manage our content management process (including ingest, organization, storage and backups)

  • Proactively identify opportunities to repackage and recut existing footage for additional formats including email and site/blog 

  • Occasionally support rapid-response opportunities at the clinic for urgent medical cases 

Team Leadership

  • Oversee a team of (mostly volunteer) video editors and publishers to deliver daily video updates across several social channels in all required formats

  • Conduct weekly editorial planning meeting with leadership and comms team members

  • Develop and manage relationships with volunteer creatives for ongoing support

  • Mentor and guide team members to produce quality work and strengthen their skills 

  • Provide employees and volunteers with proactive training and support to improve their content capture abilities

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Deep passion for our mission and willingness to become more well-versed in our approach to ending overcrowded shelters

  • 2+ years of high volume digital and social media management in organizational or campaign settings, with experience managing both short and long form video

  • Experience developing and publishing video content on all major social channels

  • High comfort level in working with people from all backgrounds - ready to actively engage team, volunteers, etc. to help produce our best work 

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of social / digital content landscape and best practices for producing compelling content that draws viewership

  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills 

  • Extremely detail-oriented with an ability to juggle multiple projects for different stakeholders

  • Outstanding project management, organization, and communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency in project collaboration workflows and tools including Airtable, Slack and Google Workspace

  • The ability to engage a volunteer team and set the tone for creative collaboration across the organization 

  • Strong editorial eye with a commitment to innovation and experimentation

  • Collaborative and open to developing new skills as needed

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and design tools
